I recently found this card from my parents to my Dad's parents on their 50th anniversary. Something I inherited when my grandparents died. My dad died less than 2 years later; he had an inoperable brain tumor. Of course, it devastated his parents; from what I've heard, my grandmother never recovered. She lived the rest of her life mourning him. Anyway, this card touches me very deeply. I love the way my dad thought and shared. He was an amazing man. Thought I would share.

"Hi Folks:
I can't really say why I bought this card over the others. They had plenty of beautiful cards with nice flowery phrases. There are a lot of things to be said about 50 years of marriage. It's not all happiness and bliss for sure, but then it (marriage) wasn't meant to be. I think for the good time to be appreciated one must experience a few lows. Like the little kid in the swing, one has to pass through the low points to gain enough strength & momentum to enjoy the highs. Some people have a difficult time learning that the cycles and swings of life are what life is all about. Nobody can stay at the top of the swing. Lesson of life are things our parents teach us. Not what we can get for ourselves, but how we make the trip. Where we set our sights; how we choose which values we embrace. Not everybody's values and opinions are the same, but as long as one truly believes in those values and pursues them with conviction and determination, they will reach the high points they strive for. Now, what all this has to do with50 years of marriage and swings is the face that as children never cease being children; parents never cease to be parents and children never cease learning from them and drawing strength from them; so that's why I can truly say that after 46 years, I really do have the highest swing in the world.
Happy Anniversary Mom & Dad

"Mommy, I'm making something for you. It's so beautiful; when you see it you will cry."

Me: "Is that what people do when they see something beautiful?"
"Yes, tears of joy."
Age 5 years, 3 mos.

She was remaking the word "LOVE" which she recently destroyed on my office cork board. She told me to pretend that she made it and to act surprised when I saw it.

I actually took this photo for the New York Times Lens Photo Blog for their Moment In Time Project where thousands of people around the world took a photo at the exact same time about 2 weeks ago. All of the photos were published; you can see them here. This photo is my entry to I Heart Faces weekly contest where the theme is Faces & Flowers. Please check out their web-site at www.iheartfaces.com and all of the other entries.
